We experience dramatic Alpine vistas and charming villages while travelling aboard the legendary GoldenPass, Glacier Express, and Bernina Pass trains of Switzerland and northern Italy. We begin with two nights in the Swiss capital city of Bern, followed by two nights in beautiful Lucerne – the Swiss Paradise on the Lake, two nights in the Swiss alpine village of Zermatt, two nights in the Swiss alpine resort town of St Moritz, two nights in a tranquil Italian alpine resort, on the shore of crystal-clear Lake Maggiore. Returning to Switzerland, we complete our vacation with two nights in the pre-medieval city of Zurich.
Day 1, Saturday, June 22 (depart home, board overnight flight)
Following our at-home-pickup-service, we transfer to the Vancouver Airport and depart this afternoon aboard Edelweiss Air's overnight flight, non-stop to Zurich, Switzerland.
Day 2, Sunday, June 23 (flight arrives Zurich, coach transfer to Bern)
Arriving in Zurich, Switzerland this afternoon, we transfer by coach to begin a two-night stay in the Swiss capital city of Bern. A UNESCO World Heritage site resting in the Swiss countryside, Bern's cobbled Old Town section is so well preserved that residents who lived here 500 years ago would still find it familiar today. Upon arrival in Bern, we check-in to our hotel, and the evening is at leisure.
Day 3, Monday, June 24 (Bern, walking tour)
Following an unhurried breakfast, we enjoy a sightseeing tour featuring the Bundeshaus (the Swiss Parliament), the famous Bear Pit, the Rose Gardens, and the gothic cathedral which dominates the Old Town's skyline. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Meals BD
Day 4, Tuesday, June 25 (Bern to Interlaken to Lucerne)
Today we enjoy a scenic drive through mountainous central Switzerland from Bern to Lucerne. Following a morning stop in Interlaken, a resort town built on a narrow stretch of land between the emerald-coloured waters of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, we continue to Lucerne, the Swiss Paradise on the shore of Lake Lucerne. Weather permitting, we'll board the world's steepest railway to ascend Mt Pilatus at a gradient of 48%. Reaching the top, we have time to stroll the walkways and soak in the magnificent views from 7,000 feet above sea level. We return back down the mountain by panoramic gondola for yet another bird’s eye view. Our home for two nights is the Hotel Waldstaetterhof, ideally located in the heart of downtown Lucerne. Meals BD
Day 5, Wednesday, June 26 (Lucerne, walking tour & leisure time)
This morning during an Altstadt (Old Town) walking tour we'll see the covered Chapel Bridge (built in 1333), the famous Water Tower that once served as a prison, the watchtower and treasury, the Renaissance-style Town Hall, the Baroque Jesuit Church, and the Lion Monument commemorating the heroic soldiers who protected King Louis XVI in 1792. This afternoon is at leisure to explore on our own. Meals B
Day 6, Thursday, June 27 (Lucerne - GoldenPass train – Montreux - Zermatt)
Departing Lucerne, we travel to Gstaad and board the GoldenPass Panoramic train to enjoy breathtaking Alpine views en-route to Montreux. We check-in for two nights at the Ambassador Hotel, conveniently located in the middle of Zermatt. Meals BD
Day 7, Friday, June 28 (Zermatt, walking tour & leisure time)

Day 8, Saturday, June 29 (Zermatt – Glacier Express Train – St Moritz)
Today we traverse bridges and tunnels while aboard the world-renowned narrow gauge Glacier Express, the most charming express train in the world. Day 10, Monday, July 1 (Moritz to Lake Como & Lago Maggiore, Italy)
Returning to Italy, a ferry ride across the waters of Lake Como introduces us to its stunning beauty.
