Feel the vibrant energy of England, see the rolling countryside of Wales, and hear the sounds of Scotland at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo! Highlights include Hadrian's Wall, Edinburgh Castle, the Lake District, the Cotswolds, Stonehenge, and a scenic train excursion from London to York.

Our vacation begins in England with three nights in London, followed by one night in York. In Scotland we enjoy two nights in Edinburgh, and then continue to Wales for an overnight at Ruthin Castle. Returning to England we complete our tour with two nights in Stratford-upon-Avon, and a final night near the London Airport.

Following our at-home-pickup-service, we transfer to the Vancouver Airport and depart this afternoon aboard our overnight flight, non-stop to London, England.

Day 2, Thursday August 3 (flight arrives London, England)
Arriving in London this afternoon, we check-in for three nights at the Grange Holborn Hotel, located midtown near shopping and restaurants. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 3, Friday August 4 (London, a leisurely introduction)
This morning we introduce London with a neighbourhood walking tour. This afternoon is at leisure to explore on our own. Tonight we dine like Londoners at a traditional English pub. Meals BD

Day 4, Saturday August 5 (London, city tour, leisure time)
During this morning's guided tour we view the quintessential city sites: the Tower of London, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace and (if held) the Changing of the Guard. This afternoon and evening are at leisure to explore on our own. Meals B

Day 5, Sunday August 6 (London via train to York)
This morning our train departs from London's historic King's Cross railway station, taking us on a relaxing journey through the English countryside to the medieval city of York. Upon arriving in York, we tour this remarkable city, seeing the famous York Minster, and walking and shopping on the Shambles, a quaint, narrow street that appears today almost as it did during the Middle Ages. We overnight at the city-centre Hotel 53 York. Tonight, dining in a family owned alehouse, we surround ourselves in an old-world ambiance and enjoy fresh farm-to-table dishes – including the famous Yorkshire Pudding. Meals BD

Day 6, Monday August 7 (York to Edinburgh, Scotland)
From York, travelling north through rolling fields we stop to see Hadrian's Wall, an ancient fortification begun in AD 122, to protect Roman Britain from the tribes of Scotland. Continuing north, we arrive in Edinburgh, Scotland's exciting capital city, which is rich in beauty and culture. We check-in for two nights at the G & V Royal Mile Hotel, located in the heart of Edinburgh on the historic Royal Mile. Meals BD

Day 7, Tuesday August 8 (Edinburgh, city tour & Military Tattoo)
Our morning tour includes Edinburgh Castle – the home of the Scottish Crown Jewels, and Holyroodhouse – the official residence in Scotland of Her Majesty the Queen, and the former home of Mary Queen of Scots. Holyroodhouse may occasionally be closed when the Queen is in residence, or for official state functions. This afternoon is at leisure. Tonight, against the backdrop of Edinburgh Castle, we attend one of Scotland's greatest events - the spectacular Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. This amazing pageant features talent from four continents including pipers, singers, dancers, and of course the music of the Massed Pipes and Drums and of the Massed Military Bands! Meals B

Day 8, Wednesday August 9 (Edinburgh to Ruthin, Wales)
This morning we make a stop in the south Scotland village of Gretna Green, famous for weddings due to its centuries-old tradition of cross-border elopements, stemming from differences between Scottish marriage laws and those of England and Wales. Returning to England through the picturesque Lake District, we visit the charming village of Grasmere, home of the poet William Wordsworth. We complete our day in the north of Wales, with an overnight stay at beautiful Ruthin Castle. Meals BD

Day 9, Thursday August 10 (Ruthin to Stratford-upon-Avon, England)
Today we travel to Stratford-upon-Avon, birthplace of William Shakespeare, England's most famous playwright. Stepping back in time, we visit Shakespeare's Birthplace and Anne Hathaway's Cottage, the childhood home of Shakespeare's wife. Our home for two nights, situated in the heart of historic Stratford-upon-Avon, is the Mercure Shakespeare Hotel. Meals B

Day 10, Friday August 11 (Stratford, visit Stonehenge & Cotswolds)
Today we travel through some of England's most beautiful countryside, visiting mystical Stonehenge and exploring the picturesque villages of the Cotswolds region, before returning to Stratford-upon-Avon. Tonight, during our private dinner at Hall's Croft, a 400-year-old Shakespeare family home, traditionally costumed actors perform some of the playwrights most renowned scenes. Meals BD
